Artist Statement: My creative work looks at the 'space in between' ancient traditional cultures and contemporary life in Australian art; my paintings are based on awareness of the current cultural and psychological fragmentation in our society in which my own extended family and friends are subsequently affected. I relate into the immigrant society exploring the spaces in between cultures, spaces and places that integrate instead of interrogate the migrant experience.

The painting Gold Bazaar was inspired by the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul, Turkey, the ancient market site that situates miles of labyrinth like alleyways, crumbling and decaying in some parts. Beautiful and antiquated networks of mazelike chambers and interconnecting cavities, as well as a sequence of lattice screens that play with light, and provide evidence of how it was, presenting a unique view of an ancient culture from within.
