Artist Statement: Art and children are enigmatically connected and both are the impetus to personal and professional fulfilment. The arts offer an important means for developing the intricate and delicate aspects of the mind. Art entices us to investigate the rich relationship between thinking and learning, contributing to further education, fostering new perspectives and new vision. Working with children allows me to reclaim the fun and magic that is already happening in their world, as we engage in making art bits and pieces each and every day.
Creative self-expression gives voice to complex dreams that are transformed into a visual language through the many and varied processes of procedure and methodology leading to a great sense of achievement. But it requires us to understand the materials we choose and it prompts us to question what it is we do as well as its validity within a cultural context. Clay is a hypnotic art form, connecting to an ancient sense of measure that delights in the magical realms of a child's imagination. The doing part is much more fun, perhaps a naïve approach yet when I am working with clay time stands still as I transform clay into objects of fascination.
