Steve McLaren

Steve McLaren : Steve is a multiskilled enviromental artist/curator who has his creative fingers in many pies. Steve has an indescribable passion for all art and artforms which is shown in his belief that "everyone should get their bloody art out there" attitude. He puts his money where his mouth is and mentors and supports all artists who do wish to get their work out and about,by setting up themed shows, organizing spaces for works to hang and attending openings in support of these artists in whatever art form it takes.

Steve is a Director at TAP GALLERY , Darlinghurst which is Sydney's premiere artist run gallery. In in 2009 he was appointed Curatorial and Creative Advisor for the gallery after his 7 year history with the space and putting on some huge "Themed" shows and being invovled with many of the shows that have gone through.

Steve's shows are truly "Happenings" where all manner and forms of art are put together and complement each other and the themes are up to each artists interpretation. Shows with such names as "About a Woman" "About a man" "Now Here's My Darkside" "I'm Rusted,I'm Crusted,I'm Falling To Bitz" all highly sucessful with massive crowds filling the entire gallery on opening nights that were filled with many art forms, music, poetry, performances, acrobatics, installations, bellydancers and firedancers and even fashion parades with people such as iconic actor and art supporter Jack Thompson opening a show. Next big show is called "curiously consumed".

Steve also has run several spaces ,one being the hugely sucessful Gallery 26 at
Milsons Point which had major "happenings" monthly and provided a fantastic network base for many Sydney artists.
Steve has since diversified this into 2 spaces G26 Space@Northbridge for mid size to very large canvases (in the atrium section of the building that houses the McGrath Foundation) it can hold around 50 larger works and is changed monthly.
G26 Space@Milsons Point for mostly works on paper of all types.
Both these spaces he selects artists for each show and assists them in hanging their shows -all free of charge!
Steve is also currently recruitment officer for SWAN and Liasion officer for Fairfield Art Society and believes everyone should get to show their art.
