In 2008, South western artist’s network held “Sydney Art Party 2008 – Conscious Canvasses” The event was held on the grass, outside the art gallery of NSW totally by surprise. That is, without permission, unauthorized, “guerrilla style art making”. Coinciding and unofficially contributing to the Sydney Biennale 2008 “Revolutions - forms that turn” the event united 25 local contemporary artists, who crashed the biennale, and who took part in the live art making activity of painting one other’s clothing before the participants all proceeded to walk, led by a man in a pterodactyl suit, as living artworks through the art gallery of NSW. The event's anonymous curator, 'exclamation point' was quoted, saying:  "As emerging artists, this is possibly one of the only ways most of us can exhibit at the AGNSW, to wear our art and walk in”. Gallery security paid close attention as the art party participants barnstormed the Art gallery of NSW in a line, showing their freshly painted clothing art. Event MC Pterodactyl man (clothed in his full pterodactyl suit) brought about many laughs with his cosmic haiku performance poetry. The event also was the stage for performances, poetry, live art, spoken word and song. The grass outside of the AGNSW provided the perfect locale for this impromptu spectacle and was enjoyed by literally hundreds of passersby and visitors to the gallery on the day. The event illustrated the creative potential of technology as it was only publicized using the internet and sms with the location and participation instructions kept secret until the last moment. Sydney art party will be happening again soon. Where and when is still top secret. Subscribe to our newsletter on the side menu to stay informed.
